I’ve written about this often.
My reason, purpose, and sometimes excuse.
But if you step back from the moment, See!
There is a grander scheme of life.

You must know
what your reason for life is all about.

Every so often, a singer, songwriter, musician, or even a performer,
Comes along, and I’m an instant follower.
The voice, style, words, and melody must fit my mold.
I’m Southern, so I like slower songs.
I was raised away from Rock and Roll,
so Country, Western, and Gospel are my forte.

Most of all,
the words of a song must speak of truth,
define a path that is easily understood,
and tell me a story.

The other important point?
It’s all about timing.
Not every song for every season,
but sometimes, the times demand a listen and a read,
then shared with my friends and to my God.

There Is A Reason

Words and Melody by Ron Block
Performed by Alison Krause and Union Station

I’ve seen hard times, and I’ve been told
There isn’t any wonder that I fall
Why do we suffer, crossing off the years
There must be a reason for it all

I’ve trusted in You, Jesus, to save me from my sin
Heaven is the place I call my home
But I keep on getting caught up in this world I’m living in
And Your voice it sometimes fades before I know

Hurtin’ brings my heart to You, crying with my need
Depending on Your love to carry me
The love that shed His blood for all the world to see
This must be the reason for it all

Hurtin’ brings my heart to You, a fortress in the storm
When what I wrap my heart around is gone
I give my heart so easily to the ruler of this world
When the one who loves me most will give me all

In all the things that cause me pain, You give me eyes to see
I do believe, but help my unbelief
I’ve seen hard times, and I’ve been told
There is a reason for it all

Isaiah 1:16-20 NKJV (Emphasis Mine)

(Take Ownership)
“Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean;
Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes.
Cease to do evil, Learn to do good;
Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor;
Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow.
(Turn To The Lord)
“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD,
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be as wool.
If you are willing and obedient,
You shall eat the good of the land;
But if you refuse and rebel,
You shall be devoured by the sword”;
For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
