Babies hand holding on to adult fingerLearning to Let Go

I remember my kids,
Young and teetering on wobbly legs.
It’s something we all relate to, though difficult to recall.
Why? Most of this happened before memories were formed.

Hanging to your hands
Or to something for support
They would stretch their reach
With each unsure step, they took.

Eventually, they learn, and we learn to let go.
From comfort, they reach a point where they say, “No Way!”
Never again will they reach out
To find that support they once could not move without.

Each stage of life has similar experiences.
But we should never take anything for granted.
What we once yearned for can so easily be taken away.
Can you identify what you are still holding on to?

I found this comment this morning.
And it made me think of what we take for granted.
Maybe you can relate to this
From whatever hand you have just walked away from.

For seven years, American pilot Howard Rutledge was a prisoner of war in North Vietnam. In his memoir, he wrote that on his first New Year’s Day of captivity, he made three resolutions that he repeated each year. First, he would try never to be cold again. Second, he would try never to be hungry again. And third, he would never be without the Bible again. He wanted the Bible ingrained in his mind and engraved on his heart.” ~Via @GregLaurie

Psalms 139:1-14 NKJV

For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
O LORD, You have searched me and known me.
You know my sitting down and my rising up;
You understand my thought afar off.
You comprehend my path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways.
For there is not a word on my tongue,
But behold, O LORD,
You know it altogether.
You have hedged me behind and before,
And laid Your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain it.
Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend into heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
Even there Your hand shall lead me,
And Your right hand shall hold me.
If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,”
Even the night shall be light about me;
Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You,
But the night shines as the day;
The darkness and the light are both alike to You.
For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
