I’m not a “clothes horse.”
Give me function and comfort,
and comfort over function.
I never understood colors,
just give me something dark.

No matter what you think
Someone dislikes your clothes
The message they send,
The options they unfold.
Function, please, mostly comfort.

Here’s the rub in all that noise
Clothes, like skin, eventually fade
Oh, the wrinkles and comfort
Begin to show how poorly we wear
And, just like that’s all she wrote!

Compare the time of your skin
With that latest fad of clothes
Some pamper and spoil
And, oh, the money they spend
There’s no way they look natural!

I have shirts I’ve worn for 10 years
Or more, once they fade,
Bearing the
Sweat from hard work
Gone! That’s their destiny.
As long as they’re comfortable.

I was thinking about aging, and the challenges we all face as we move further down the sunset trail. Some want to mask their age, others want to shine those years. Yet, there’s a secret to everything.

Accept it, or make plans to change!

New Thought

My uncle just passed and we’ve been talking about his stuff. Henry was always quick to give things away, and then replace them with new things. A few things he kept, but mostly he was in the business of giving things away.

What’s the thought? Nothing we spend money on matters in the fullness of time when we are gone. Spend wisely, share lavishly, and just keep moving on.

But for those of us who need a better thought, I give you this. The Bible is full of scriptures that tell us how to refresh, renew, and restore. While we are here, and while we have time. We don’t need to waste our resources, nor our efforts. We can return back to that framework of solid life and living in the comfort of God’s word.

We can Refresh and Renew things that are more important than the skin we wear. We can feel restored no matter the times.

David said that they Lord can renew a steadfast spirit within (Psalms 51:10). The prophet Isaiah declares or strength can be renewed if we wait (serve) the Lord. (Isaiah 40:31)

Is there a secret to renewal? Sure. It’s how we react to the Lord. If we do it correctly, He will bring us back to him and our days will be renewed.

Turn us back to You, O LORD,
and we will be restored;
Renew our days as of old,
(Lamentations 5:21)

But when you take your last breath…Henry…there’s a new suit of clothes we can only imagine.

Thanks for readying!
