Looking back
We wonder
Why we gave
So much focus
To something that today
Is only casually considered

At the time of then
Our focus had not the depth
That our future self
Shrugs and says,
No big deal.
It’s really all about
Timing and perspective

Thinking about where we’ve been and where we are headed, I discern that we gain perspective with tomorrow’s arrival. There’s much to be said about living in the moment, but also, looking back, we realize we did not have a good perspective. It’s not that I’m looking back, walking forward blindly. It’s so easy to stumble because we are not watching our steps.

“Whatever you hold in your mind will tend to occur in your life.
If you continue to believe as you have always believed,
you will continue to act as you have always acted.
If you continue to act as you have always acted,
you will continue to get what you have always gotten.
If you want different results in your life or your work,
all you have to do is change your mind.”
~Strati Georgopoulos

Perhaps we need to illuminate our world better. I know I see the past with a better perspective. Call it 20/20 vision if you must—even a backward glance. At the same time, I don’t want to lose my way in the present nor confuse my direction into the future. That’s why I keep walking forward. How? My backward glance is not a full-time stare. Forward momentum is stymied when you are constantly looking at your past.

Also, I keep my walk constructed to be successful when I keep God in the equation. Here’s my favorite scripture from Psalms 119.

(Nun) Your word is a lamp for my foot and light on my path.
(Psalms 119:105 CJB)
