Park bench at glowing sunriseHere... Conversation with God.

Middle of the night, or perhaps just an hour before dawn,
Awake. Not sure why. Move to my chair. And now?
Maybe it’s time to do what’s normal.
Let’s have a conversation with God.

This is one of my favorite times.
Some call it prayer, and then they lament and moan,
Never giving God a moment to speak in return.
Not me, and I try to do this all the time.
One mouth, two ears, maybe that’s the formula.
Speak half less than what we hear.

I consider it like talking to my friend, my brother,
Or a stranger I’ve just made the acquaintance of.
A conversation is only working if you give each other time to talk.
So, converse with God… don’t hog all the hour.

The older you get, the one thing you find,
There are fewer your age who can relate to the times as you do.
Oh, but God. He’s been around so much longer than me.
I like to think, He chuckles if I begin to whine.

So, I lift that lower lip, even those hands that hang low.
Have a talking to myself and rearrange my attention
Face upright and be strong, even in the face of danger and doubt.
Be wise… God knows the truth. He knows what I need.

Times have been busy, fraught with toil.
Sweat drips like dew from the low-hanging brow.
Muscles and joints are not up to the task,
Why must life feel hard when nearing the end?

War declared! How does it affect us?
Is the pandemic winding down? Will it show up again?
What does the future hold? Am I prepared for it?
Will Your church survive this generational curse?

Oh, but he speaks when I give Him a minute.
The Church is your greatest concern? Wait!
Did I not say it’s Mine, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail?
Trust me. It’s covered, just like all the other things that worry you.

Folks, you might not read me every day,
Or share my words or thoughts along your way.
I’ve come to realize my best conversational time
This is found in my morning routine – a pattern is set in stone.

Good Morning, God… How are you today?
I pray I’m not a problem you have to deal with right now.
I’m doing my best, keeping my focus,
And spending quality time in your Word.

I’m ready to converse. I know I’m just one.
If there are others like me, then I know you get an ear full.
There’s nothing more I need than to check in as I do the weather.
Storms? Rain? El Nino? La Nina? Or a calm, hmmm, like on the Sea of Galilee.

It don’t matter…. You have control of everything.
I need to trust you. That’s my faith.
You are mercy, with more than enough grace to dispense.
I’ll take as much as you think I need for the day. Thank you Lord.

Your Word gives it to me straight.
And I consider this right now.
I draw strength from your message…
It’s my conversation with you every single day.

This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope.
Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul,
“Therefore I hope in Him!”
Lamentations 3:21-24 NKJV

A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath Day.
It is good to give thanks to the LORD,
And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning,
And Your faithfulness every night,
Psalms 92:1-2 NKJV

The LORD is righteous in her midst,
He will do no unrighteousness.
Every morning He brings His justice to light;
He never fails, But the unjust knows no shame.
Zephaniah 3:5 NKJV

A Praise of David. I will extol You, my God, O King;
And I will bless Your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless You,
And I will praise Your name forever and ever.
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised;
And His greatness is unsearchable.
Psalms 145:1-3 NKJV
