How to prime your mind for action.

If there’s one class that I could teach high school students before they graduate, it would be a class on developing their mindset. The way we think impacts us more than anything else in our lives. The worst thing could happen to you and yet if you have the right way of thinking about it, you can transform a setback into an opportunity.

So how do I do this on a daily basis?

One. Physiology.

It’s surprising how much are physical state impacts our mindset.
-Start with sleep. Did you have a good 6 to 8 hours of sleep? A successful day begins when you go to bed.
-Vigorous cardio workout. I begin every day getting my heart racing and my blood pumping.
-Drink water. Lots of water. I drink a gallon a day.

Two. Inspirational content.

I listen to the the Bible on audio, inspirational audiobooks, inspiring podcast interviews, and practical training to help find my mind for a day of growth.

Three. Goal documentation.

During my morning walk, I record my goals for the day. Writing out what you want to accomplish while you’re in a peak state will help you dream bigger and stretch a little further.

Four. Guided affirmation.

I have a 300 word affirmation statement, reminding me of:
-who I am
-what I’m good at
-my core mission
-my vision and values
-my habits and routines
-my key relationships
-my goals for this year
(I listen to this affirmation on audio at least three times before I start my day.)

Now I know what you might be thinking, Brian that sounds like a lot. And yes, I do all of this before 6 AM.

But here’s what happens:

I approach the day with a renewed mindset seeking to make the most of the short day that I have.

If you don’t have the results that you want in your life, start with the way that you think. Prime your mind for action, and you might just be surprised at how much you actually accomplish.

There is always hope.
