The Voices I Hear - Vintage RadiosThe Voices I Hear

On my Monday off, I was in my office
Putting together a bookcase or two,
So I could finalize the appearance before
I moved my desks in… I’m getting close to “finish!”

It felt a little backward, but that’s the way it is
In the voice of Walter Cronkite, of course.
Some things go the right way. Sometimes.
Too often, we back into the result from a backward position.

Anyway. I was listening to my pastor of younger years
Rev James L Kilgore. There was something about his preaching.
Words and affirmations to another crowd where I was not,
But the theme struck home. The Voice. A Message.

While assembling, I took mental note of the voice
I once knew so very well. It took me back over 50 years.
That voice and message have been consistent.
It was unique and very familiar. Generational. My elder.

Other than one other, I know how strongly I’m affected.

Scripture was not just read
But also recited from memory, and that gave me pause.
Consider. How much can you recite from memory and know it’s reference?
No panic, perhaps like case law, recite, or do you need to look it up?

I’ve seen his handwritten notes.
Not every scripture was worded out as I’m of a habit to do.
My memory banks seem full, and I’m unsure I could do it.
But the voice with a message confirmed. I hear Jesus through it!!

The ’60s and ’70s were tumultuous times,
Without living it, you only know through History.
Pastor Kilgore also taught us, by example, love for everyone and anybody.
Honestly, I admit much of my “people caring” came from his example.

I’ve said it through the years, none of us are perfect.
But when you find a gemstone in a field of experiences,
Be like the parable. Sell all so you can buy it.
Life can be better if you only commit.

Matthew 13:45-46 NKJV

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls,
who, when he had found one pearl of great price,
went and sold all that he had and bought it.

2 Samuel 24:24 NKJV

Then the king said to Araunah,
“No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price;
nor will I offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God
with that which costs me nothing.”
So David bought the threshing floor
and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
