There are places I want to go
If time and money are tight
I push hard to make it happen.
A trip. The ultimate experience. Right?!

There are places I care nothing about
Hot, crowded, loud, and maybe unsafe
Pay me all kinds of money and promise fame
I’m still not spending my time going.

The hottest places on earth? You keep.
Cold and distant shores beckon me more.
There’s something about the words…
Barren. Cold. Few people there. That’s my zone!

A new connection has a rock to share with me
From a distant land mass at the southern pole.
A treasure! A destination for sure.
But wait… trips start at 10-20k.

When I was young, beginning to work
The meat market was favored. The freezer was heaven.
There’s something about standing coatless
In the cold and savoring the weather.

Moved to Alaska, we did, in the year of 1980.
It was November. Warm in Texas. Frigid up north.
We got off the ferry in Haines, and it was below zero.
We drove through the Yukon, -45 or so.

We moved into an apartment,
I slept with the window cracked.
Though worried pipes may freeze
It was some of my best nights ever.

I was made for this. So I chill my house. It’s 64.
My office, in the early morning, is about the same.
I feel like I want to share…it’s my grain of salt for you.
You’ve never lived until….well, now you know!
