Drop of Water on Still SurfaceWhen Waters Go Silent

You find them on the fly. Words. Perhaps they give you pause to consider, or they immediately resonate deep within. Someone is sharing a thought via words, and you realize the joy of their sharing. Maybe it’s a voice with a tone, timbre, and quality that hits home. Perhaps it’s sitting on the edge of your seat in anticipation of the following syllable or phrase.

A profound thought drops like a rock on still waters to send out ripples in every direction.
If the waters are swiftly moving, then the effect of the thought is lost.

Selah. Think about it. Every word you hear and give place in your mind affects everything else you’ve ever thought.

Source the words from any platform you imagine. Whether printed or heard, Hmm, are these the only two sources? Their language may be unique from someplace or time in your past.

You connect with the words no matter their source.

Whether song, poetry, or story, from a speaker or singer, you soak up the experience. It brings affirmation and knowledge to your foundation. But words alone are sometimes not enough. You must tease the fullness of the words into a meaning, and then Thimk it through. Sometimes the thought produces a melody. It’s easier to remember and communicate with others.

Thimk and Do (Click to Read my thought on Thimk!)

“Words make you think a thought.
Music makes you feel a feeling.
A song makes you feel a thought.”
~E.Y. Harburg (Songwriter of many songs, including “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”)

The cadence, or rhyme, are ways to absorb. For some, the best way to enjoy words is through music. Not just any music will do. It must speak to the heart and resonate deeply in the soul. More than likely, it will produce emotions when nothing else can.

Music is a moral law.
It gives soul to the universe,
wings to the mind,
flight to the imagination,
and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.
~Plato

Where Did They Go

The words you enjoyed were informational and soaring. Eventually, they meld into the surroundings. Suddenly, one day you awake. Where did they go? They were once popular.

Fanny Crosby (1820-1915), born probably blind, became one of the most prolific poets and wordsmiths for songs we all take for granted. Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior, Blessed Assurance, Draw Me Nearer, Old Rugged Cross, to name a few of the more than 8,000 pieces of published writings. Powerful words from another century, yet we still call on them today to remind us of our need and His Great Grace.

Where did she go? I’m thinking more about the power of her words that join us together!

There will always be a time when voices go silent, and words drift into the backdrop of life. You recall them and sometimes wonder why you once found them so important. Remember when? Remember when you listened to that song over and over, reread the book, soaking up the words, or begging for more? Maybe you even judged life by the experience of the Words You Once Heard.

Voices, like waters deep,
come and go before you know it.
Their memories become part of our whole,
the background of who we are.
Voices, like the silence
from a place of deep introspection.
We ponder their depth, meaning, and value.
Garnered from a time long ago, or as recent as now
Words we absorb through turbulent times,
When it seems all may split into drops.
But water has a healing quality – It can reunite.
Aftermath? Joined together, drop by drop.
Voices made fade. Words can stay for ages.
Technology helps them linger longer than we ever thought possible.
Perhaps this is my crucial thought today.
Put your words to use. Think, Speak, Write, Share.

Let the sayings of my mouth,
And the meditation of my heart,
Be for a pleasing thing before Thee,
O Jehovah, my rock, and my redeemer!
Psalms 19:14 YLT
