Words are weird…

Present and GiftYou know what I mean. The same word with divergent meanings. Not even a similarity that makes sense. Consider the word “present”.

  • Here. Now. Before You. ~or~ Gift. Surprise.

But what’s really weird is when we try to live the past in the present. Yesterday is today. Tomorrow never comes because you always live Yesterday. It is sometimes hard to separate Yesterday from Today. Yesterday, the Seahawks won a playoff game by 1 point in sub zero weather. Today they are at home still living Yesterday’s victory.

If they continue to live in the past then they never use today to prepare for tomorrow.

You cannot live on the successes and failures of Yesterday. Turn a new leaf, be present in the moment of Today. There’s only one person who does not think of Yesterday like we do.

For a thousand years in Your sight Are like yesterday when it is past, And like a watch in the night. (Psalms 90:4 NKJV)

For God to live outside of the constraints of time, his span of consideration of Yesterday is a thousand years. Our Yesterday is but a 24 hour period. That’s our 1 out of His 365,000 x 24 hour periods, or, better yet… That’s 8, 760,000 hours… Eight Million Hours. Equal to our Yesterday.

Put Yesterday in perspective. God never changes (Malachi 3:6), though you and I change Today and all the future Tomorrows based on what we dealt with Yesterday. But Jesus never changes (Hebrews 13:8) and this is our assurance. For a God that remains the same, we can live victoriously though our circumstances may change. This gives me strength that Yesterday can make Today changed for my Good, and Tomorrow has a bright future because of my choices Today.

Live in the “Today”… Okay?
