Double Yellow Stripes in a road headed for the mountainsPropose a Purpose

I entered my IT career when I was 18, married at 19, and spent many years of busyness. In the early years, I accepted the call to ministry and eventually was called to pioneer two churches. I’m in the last year of my ’60s. With no thought of what the future entails, I woke with this thought on my mind. What is my purpose? I know my why, lived through my what, and plan to continue. There is no slowdown on the horizon. Still, this question begs an analysis and an answer.

I’ve been writing my blog for over 14 years.
There have been periods of consistency.
Of course, there have been times when I lagged.
I’m looking for a tool to tell me what my writing is all about.

It’s out there. The tool, that is. AI is helping in this research.
When I do a Boolean search, I enter words by combination.
What +Why -Clueless, or something like that.
Boolean is simply keywords to use or to exclude.

Whoa! “Why” is used more times than “What.”
Now, that’s a simple way of looking at the answer.
I do ask more questions about “why” over “what.”
So, it is to be expected that I use one word more often.

But I woke this morning with my advancing years in mind,
I thought through this question: What Is My Purpose?
Then I spent a lot of brain energy asking myself, “Why?”
Why is this my purpose when those famous sunset years approach?

I thought about an uncle who is moving into his mid-90s.
A professional career left in the dust didn’t slow him down.
He always has something to do because he created his life.
It has been helped by a mindset and health that allows him to function.

Yet, I know his life is not for me. That’s his life and success…
Mine is different. So I continually search for ways…
To keep my hands, mind, and emotions busy…
That is why I propose a purpose that is unique to me.

“Create purposeful opportunities
to stay engaged in family, life, ministry, growth, and direction
so that my mind and attitude do not slow down
until sometime in the future when it must.
That’s not now. Get up and Move!”

What’s your purpose in life? Is it meaningful? Do you have an underlying mental picture of what your time now and the future looks like?

It’s not too late to dream a little, expand your horizons, and grow into your “new you.”

Caleb comes to mind. He didn’t let his age slow him down. From slavery to wandering the wilderness, and finally, he’s prepared for the promised land. Take special note… The promised land still required effort!

And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years,
ever since the LORD spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness;
and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old.
As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me;
just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in.
Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke in that day;
for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there,
and that the cities were great and fortified.
It may be that the LORD will be with me,
and I shall be able to drive them out as the LORD said.”
And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance.

Propose to Purpose: Caleb: …here I am this day, eighty-five years old. As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in.… Click To Tweet
