Reading After DarkRestless Reading

Midway between midnight and dawn
Restless is an uncomfortable place to be.
There are no mulligans here. You can’t start over.
Waste the time, and you’ll be ill-prepared to face daylight.

Retreat.

The living room is my friend.
Cereal, no coffee.
Catch up on boring news apps.
Create eye strain and maybe sleep returns.

The real problem? Turning my mind off.
Once it begins rehashing, planning, or wishing…
Well, too often, I watch the sun come up with too little rest.

Other than my phone,
no screen time is planned.
Keep my attention on a few small square inches,
and I’ll make myself weary.

For all of us, a day will come
When we take our final sleep
And here, we’ll awake no more.
Until then, bear with the middle of the night.

Okay. It’s working. After an hour, I’m about ready for bed.

Later!

Job 14:11-12 NKJV

As water disappears from the sea,
And a river becomes parched and dries up,
So man lies down and does not rise.
Till the heavens are no more,
They will not awake Nor be roused from their sleep.
