Night SkyEverything Began Somewhere

I watched a film of a man who lived his childhood dream of becoming something any of us would have thought an impossibility.

Part of his success came because of the culture of his family.

The family culture was something to wish for. When in sorrow, they rallied around to a group hug. When a celebration was due, they showed up and enjoyed the event. When saying “so long,” yes, you got it—a group hug.

What was his culture?

From a neighboring country, they migrated to what we’ve called the “new world” to have a better life. They worked the traveling life from farm to farm when it was time to harvest. His migrant farm worker dad laid out a plan for moving forward. The story’s star, the son, bought into it, and you can see the pattern of his life as he grew up.

I made notes of this plan. Why? That’s what I do. I’m at a point where everything I engage in it must be something I learn from. There’s no time like the present to keep learning, process the knowledge, and then share outwardly.

Here you go.

  • Find Your Goal
  • Know how far you are.
  • Draw a roadmap.
  • If you don’t know how, learn.
  • When you think you’ve made it, you probably have to work harder.

This instruction kept the child looking forward into adulthood until his goal was reached 30 years later.

What does culture say about this?

No matter who you are or where you are from, you need the motivation of others to prompt your life forward. But success comes from you putting sweat equity into the process and teaching it to others. That should be our culture. Learn. Then share. Teach. Example.

That’s my culture.
