Tree, Sky, Stars, Clouds, Green FieldWhispered Thoughts

Late at night, as the day retires
My mind shuffles through thoughts
Attempting to make sense of the randomness
Of handling life, one stack at a time.

Suddenly, as a whisper, I hear a holy voice
Speak peace, comfort, and something better
To think about as my body prepares to slumber.
On the edge of consciousness, God talks to me.

It’s not a dream state, but it is restful
Shhh! Quieten down so that sleep can arrive
I hear a voice, almost a murmur
Will I remember this tomorrow?

Yes. God gives me a message, and this happens often.
Something to share or something to ponder.
Only time will tell its purpose.
I glean from these whispers something for me, then others.

It was no different last night.
Sleep came as a drifting dune.
One grain at a time. There, there. Take your rest.
But don’t forget, God says, I whispered a thought to you.

I awake early. What was that thought?
Where did it go? I should have scratched a note.
But wait! It’s not gone. God’s whisper never leaves.
It’s planted a seed that will someday grow.

God’s whispered thoughts are never far away.
But you have to be still, listen well,
God has something to say.
Speak, Lord. Your child is listening.
