It’s been days since we were concerned,
And the danger seems to be gone. Life’s okay.
Then, out of the blue more news comes,
From another shore, another one is gone.

It’s been an afternoon of shock, grieving,
Thinking, and figuring life out.
It’s too late to make different choices
But life needs to breathe. Now. Breathe.

It’s not the news you expect to hear,
We always think we have more time
To pick up, go away, disconnect, then reconnect,
And reminiscence of younger years.

Where do the years go when you suddenly realize
You are now the age of your parents
Back in their older days when you were young.
Pause. Count the years. Oh, my. We’re now old.

It’s an evening of memories,
You wish the years could be pushed back
But it cannot, nor ever can it be.
Affirm to do better with the time you have left.

Don’t put if off. Make your time better spent.
It’s not just about you or them, but all about we and us.
Rekindle the home fires, keep them burning bright,
The future is now here, don’t wait another day.
