Just One More Thing To Do

My bride turned to me as we wrapped up a conversation about a specific need.
She uttered the phrase, “Just one more thing to do.”
Her focus was on the “just,” but the thought rang through and through.
Hmmm… Sounds like a blog post in the works.
Here I am. It’s simple:

One More Thing To Do

Life never gets done until we are not here to do it.
Work always exists, even when we are weary.
Struggles pound against our minds and our schedules.
Ever-increasing loads continually stack up.
It’s always the thought, One More Thing To Do.

Deadlines, Irons in the Fire, Tasks on the stack
One thing after the other piles into a heap
Work through the load. We all know to do it
But how on earth will it ever diminish?
We find there is still, One More Thing To Do.

Do we ever reach the time of doing nothing?
Isn’t that what vacations and retirement are for?
But when you go to R&R and stay just as busy,
Was it Rest, Recreation, or just another distraction?
It’s always the process, One More Thing To Do.

Though it’s my nature and world to be busy,
I control my destiny and schedule right well,
But when a friend calls, calls, and calls again,
You Fret, “What’s happening to ring this bell?”
Don’t let it be felt as One More Thing To Do.

Life is nothing if it’s not in constant flux.
I read it this weekend, and it fits my mood today
Don’t let this time next year find you the same.
Growth should always be happening, day by day
.”
Yes, you got it right. It’s just One More Thing To Do.

I remember my grandmother’s infamous phrase,
When you would call and ask how she’s doing.
I do well.” Was it always like this? I dunno.
Her response was heard and felt, “I do…well.”
But I learned action from her, “One More Thing To Do.”

Our Senior Pastor from years gone by
Would recite a phrase of focus as many times
As the number of words in the phrase.
With each recitation, he would emphasize
First, one word, repeat, now emphasize the next.
Yes. I learned it well, and his voice is in my ear.
It’s all I can say, One More Thing To Do.

Don’t ever let it be said,
That you failed to face the test or meet the need.
There will always be times of stress and demands
How would you put it? It’s easy to acquiesce.
On your list. It’s just One More Thing To Do.
