Thursday is Special

Every day of the week has a unique label.
Every day seems to have a purpose.
Perhaps it’s different for each of us,
And we commemorate the day uniquely.

TGIF represents relief we’ve reached the end of the workweek. Friday!
Saturday is “My Day” to do what I want.
When I want, and even how I want.
Please don’t take my Saturday away.

In my world, Church is always on Sunday,
and I was raised to let very little interfere with this important day.
Why? The church is essential enough,
but it is also the day, the first day of the week,
When Christ Arose!

Monday is blue because we are sad to return to our job.
Or the weekend was so much fun we hate to leave it behind.
Tuesday, well, Tuesday is our Monday
because we failed to accomplish much yesterday.

Wednesday is Hump Day,
The work week is halfway completed,
and if you think about it, there’s a Hump Hour!
It’s a downhill slide to “My Day!”

Caught between Hump Day and TGIF
We find a day most strange
It doesn’t have a label we use each week
It’s often represented only annually.

Thursday.
From somewhere, my sister called it Thankful Thursday.
After retirement, she would visit with mom and dad.
And they would identify what they were thankful for each Thursday,
Write it down, and put it in a jar.

Maybe there is a purpose for the day that seems left behind.
Why Left? It’s a left-over, left-out, and somewhere in left field.
But it, too, has a title that is Sunday Relateable.
It is “Maundy Thursday” and happens once per year.

What is Maundy? It’s from Latin, of course.
It simply means “command.”
It’s when Jesus commanded his disciples to wash one another feet
As he showed by example when he washed their feet.

On another thought about this day,
Do unto others
As you would them do to you.
Yes. This is Thursday.

Equally, and annually, we celebrate our National Holiday
on the Fourth Thursday of November.
It may not have been pretty and joyful when it began
With the Early Colonists, yet, it is still called Thanksgiving.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
the penultimate three-day weekend
Throw in a Monday since you don’t work anyway,
And you have the majority of the week.

Caught between those days
The core of all we say, do and live
Tuesday, Wednesday, and forget not Thursday
There, you are now complete.

This morning I’m thankful for good memories of my past, which includes all my family. Yes. All of them. Friends are someone you choose, and family is someone you are selected to represent. So, do them justice. Help them do you justice. Family sticks together, even when separated by time and distance. Or, as I like to say, “across the miles and through the years.”
