Quit Bragging!

Okay. I’m sorry. I tend to brag about the weather. A lot. Often. I’m proud of our cooler temps, and when it gets nice (C-O-L-D), I tend to brag even more. When others are hot, and we are just starting to break into the ’70s and ’80s, then I like to brag. I like bragging when I have to crack the ice and brush off the snow!

Bragging = Excessive pride or boastfulness… Yes. That’s me. I’m bragging about the Cold!

During my first winter in Alaska (1980), I would sleep with the window cracked so I could smell and taste the cold -30+ degrees flowing into the bedroom. A time or two, I had problems – the window froze open as the warm inside air connected with the cold outside air—time for an adjustment.

If you’ve done it, it ain’t bragging.

Do I get cold? Sure. I’m no different than you. But I casually step barefooted into the snow when you shiver and run for the covers. When you wear coats in the summer, I wear my jacket when it gets down to zero. My view: A light coat will do if it’s Zero and the wind is not blowing. However, if the wind blows, that light jacket comes out of the closet when it gets to 50 degrees.

It is said that, with time, our complete DNA story will unfold to paint our historical path. Currently, 100% of my DNA comes from these countries. My view? The colder, the better; I only wished Iceland was included in the mix!

It’s incredible how different we are and where many have their roots documented. The largest population of the globe is found within 24 degrees of the Equator – either on, above, or below! The most significant percentage of the world population is located within this 48-degree range, north and south. Call it the “belly band” of population centers.

If you know me and where I was born, then you know the latitude (29.7355° N) and longitude (94.9774° W). I am just outside that 48-degree range, but I would have much rather been born somewhere closer to: 61.2176° N, 149.8997° W. Any clue?

Okay. I’m sorry. That’s still bragging happening in the Amen Corner!

I just did a quick research. Of the seven continents, Europe and Antarctica are not found in any of the latitudes that constitute the population centers of the globe. Hmmm. I wonder what their bragging rites are all about?
