Interrupting the domino fallMaking Room for an Interruption

Consider the past several years, and we find that interruptions happen at the drop of a hat. Life turns on a dime, and interruptions quickly follow. Sometimes we see the silver lining behind each event. Oft times, we are victimized by the moment. Still, there are many times we are overwhelmed and have no clue what to do next.

Today, we are focused on learning to allow for interruptions and how to make room for them in our outlook. Not everyone is in the same space, so give them grace wherever they are and let them move at their pace.

What if? What if the interruption is divine? Let’s take full advantage of what God is doing in the times we live. We cannot see the ending and may not appreciate the present, but I’m willing to trust God.

Joseph was favored by his father and despised by his siblings. When God allowed an interruption to move him further down the road in less than spectacular circumstances, Joseph could rage against the injustice. Or, he could trust God and keep on being who he was before his brothers did him wrong.

John is arrested and imprisoned. Is it a timely interruption? Or does he still have more work to do? He asks Jesus, “Are you the one, or is there another to come?”

Paul appeals to Rome, and this seemingly self-imposed interruption allows him to write and promote Christ until his death. He tells Timothy he’s ready to be offered up, but he’s settling in when you read the ending of the Book of Acts. Time to write some letters, receive visitors, and keep doing his ministry.

Then Paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house,
and received all who came to him,
preaching the kingdom of God
and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ
with all confidence, no one forbidding him.
Acts 28:30-31 NKJV

No wasted interruption here!

Maybe This Is Our Lesson

We can either let an interruption stop us from being and accomplishing or act like Joseph. Prove his worth in whatever situation he’s in, even those not of his own doing. Don’t hide your head in the proverbial sand, run and hide, or be browbeaten into submission.

When the going gets tough, the tough flex their muscles and push on through!

I know someone who, despite a doctor’s horrible diagnosis, they kept being their outgoing self to the very end. No remorse or shouting angrily at God for the storm. They kept living “right” even when the storms assailed.

The list is long. Interruptions happen all the time. What you do at the moment is very important. Learning to Make Room for an Interruption shows the true nature of who you are. You may be in a holding pattern, awaiting further instruction. Your role may change, and can you allow yourself to accept what’s happened?

Pain and suffering may come,
confusion and doubt assail,
but what’s done for Christ will never be for naught.
Lift your eyes, Look to the hills
Redemption draweth nigh.
Where does my Lord come from?

Is there help to be found?
We think we’re left alone.
Oh no, he was here all the time.
