Quarantine MusingsQuarantine Musings

Today is the first official day of fully following the Governors directive: Stay Home, Stay Healthy…

There is so much confusion on what this means. Can we really stay home for two weeks?

I listened to an interview (of sorts) on the radio as I was headed home after live-streaming our Wednesday night bible study.

Construction workers have been on the job while their leadership was sheltering because their work arena was different. Well, if one has to do it, don’t all?

Okay. How do we do this? Who chooses who must work, and what work is allowed, and how do we exist during these times.

Social Distancing is important! Yes. I wrote about this while traveling through Texas several weeks ago!

One person noted: With the advent of Live Streaming everyone has become a tele-evangelist. While moving through all the streaming morass of sounds bites and social media posts, I realize that many of us (me included) are yammering.

Who has clarity to post instructions and help keep our spirits primed and lively?

What do we do when the internet breaks? Think about it! Suddenly, we can no longer pay our bills because we have no online access, the yammering ceases, our games become silent… oh, the list is too long. Get my drift? Suddenly, land lines are important, string and tin can communication comes out of the closet, and we wish we had saved everyone’s address so we can snail-mail.

I can tell you that if everything breaks we will learn all over again face to face communication across the backyard fence with our neighbors.

Think It Through

My online blog that I love to write daily could easily disappear. If we lose electricity, then my computers will eventually die. Where’s my pen and paper? Well, I’m blessed with enough pen and paper to last a few years… but I’m not so sure I would write the old fashioned way as I write via my tech tools.

Truly, this COVID-19 sounds much like the fears we had during our Y2K days! Back then, computers would fail at midnight, planes would fall out of the sky, and with the stroke of a second we would lose 100 years of technological advantage.

Think about all those who have invested their lives into a growth position. Suddenly, that investment you made a few days ago may not make sense after several weeks of “staying home to stay healthy”. The landlord for our church rental property is a new owner. I wonder if they are prepared for their properties to suddenly not be able to pay rent because they have no customers?

If ever there was a time to evaluate your life, now might be the best time to spend qualitative moments of pondering your resourcefulness. Click To Tweet

If ever there was a good time to find yourself reconnecting with God, or making your election sure, then this is be the best time! Becoming Henny-Penny, or that nervous Nelly, well, that’s not your best response.

You know you!

Research For Yourself

Through my vast reading and research interests, I found this blog post the other day. Click on it and think about what life is like after you’ve spent a week or more in quarantine.

Now. Analyze for yourself. What are you going to do to get through this?

  • Be thankful for your good health.
  • Look for ways to continue to grow.
  • Reach out to others, don’t become a recluse.
  • Looks for ways to be impactful.
  • Get out of the house, fresh air is good for you.
  • When you feel negativity slipping in, overwhelm it with positive responses.
  • Write some letters or cards and surprise someone.
  • Manage your resources, and learn how to think differently.
  • Learn something new.
  • Scope out your life for the next 10 years and determine what you want to do, and where you want to be.
  • Learn what it means to pray, worship and study without a crowd prompting you to show up at the church for the same thing.
  • Share what you’ve garnered, there may just be someone on the other side that needs to hear it from you.

A long list that can only get longer when you start realizing that there is a blessing behind the cloud of virus that hangs over our heads. Right!??! Now. Get out there and do something about it!
