It’s a proverbial statement that may be nearly 100 years old, or it may be from something further back that has not yet been tracked down. But the adage states along these lines:

“It is easier to fall for anything than to stand for something.

Since it has been tracked back to an Iowan Methodist sermon back in 1926, I suspect that it has biblical roots. Indeed, there are references back to Paul and Solomon’s writing that seem to reveal the idea of standing strong for something

  • Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1 NKJV)
  • Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; (Ephesians 6:10-17 NKJV)
  • A righteous man who falters before the wicked Is like a murky spring and a polluted well. (Proverbs 25:26 NKJV)

Can you see the reference? Standing. Falling. But be prepared to Stand!

Standing for your Godly beliefs keeps you on God's side of the issues. Let your foundation fold under the weight of accepting anything, then you will be on the wrong side of the playing field. Click To Tweet

Here’s what I’m dealing with today. I think this is a crucial thought. You have to know what you stand for is something worth fight for. We are living in times where the things we have stood for from a biblical standpoint since God ordained the knowledge, well, there is a huge exit just like the prodigal from his father’s home. Accept this, that, well, anything!

Somewhere along the way, some foundations have been weakened and it’s easier to fall for just about anything. Only, it’s called “acceptance”. Look at it from the other side of the coin and you find that those “accepted” identities will not accept you unless you are just like them. We are being forced to accept, or be crucified because we are not on their playing field.

One last thought about this…start falling for one thing, and it will be the domino effect that will make you fall for anything.

So. Today. I take a stand. My Godly beliefs do not come into question by this shaky world we are living in. Do you know what you stand for? You better know, or you’ll fall for anything!
