Jealous Scrabble Word
Envious or Jealous

As the summer season breaks out,
Remember it’s still several weeks away,
Those families are starting to enjoy
Their season of celebrating different times.

Schools out. Summer is here. Vacations begin.
Suddenly, I’m a little bit envious.
There’s nothing on my calendar except staying at home.
Of course, I’m okay with this. I vacation off season.

But that word dropped into my spirit.
Envious. Is it any different than Jealous?
Research says it is…

Envy means discontented longing for someone else’s advantages.
Jealousy means unpleasant suspicion, or apprehension of rivalship.”
~Merriam-Webster from a Usage Guide

Okay. I can be envious, but I’m certainly not jealous!

I’m glad that’s clear!

Think it through as a big “E” or “J” or a big fat zero (0).

A friend just came back from a vacation to another continent. (E)
A family is visiting the desert because they like the change. (0)
Some family came for a nice visit. I’m happy they came when it’s nice!
Everyone seems to be excited Summer is arriving. (0)
Some like it hot, I like it cold… (0)

Okay. I’m fine. Envious of a journey I’ve not taken… There’s no jealousy here.

This brought me to a thought from scripture.

Saul is King. David will soon replace him. David knows it. I’m not so sure Saul saw the bigger picture.

At one point, a victory march was underway after a victorious battle.

“So the women sang as they danced, and said:
“Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.”
Then Saul was very angry, and the saying displeased him; and he said,
“They have ascribed to David ten thousands,
and to me they have ascribed only thousands.
Now what more can he have but the kingdom?”
So Saul eyed David from that day forward.”
(1 Samuel 18:7-9, NKJV)

If you know the story, you can read between the lines. Jealousy arroused Saul to be vindictive. Envy could have changed his heart to try to become better.

It was like this for me when learning to fly – not the envy or jealousy picture, but the idea of taking a situation and improving my outlook. I had a healthy fear of piloting a small plane in the big sky! That fear made me study and practice more! It was my goal of being better than the fear!

Envy should make us become better than our feelings…

I’m just saying. Focus your energy the right way! Don’t be jealous. A little envy may actually help!
