Antique Royal TypewriterOwn Your Words

I love words.
They are the bread and butter of my identity.
I think in terms of words and phrases.
I read, and the better the words describe something, the better I understand.
Sometimes, I read simply for the beauty of the words and phrases.

Finally, I speak.
That’s where we often fail.
Sometimes, they don’t come out the way I heard them in my mind or read them from the “ink,” but regardless, they are mine.
I own my words.

Words are important. They set the stage for success and failure. They describe the good and bad, up and down, left and right, forward and backward. They right the topsy-turvy. They crimp the cursing crowd. They inflame, ignite, and blaze a path, wanted or not.

Words will be your win and loss, sometimes in the same breath.

I watch my words because they speak what’s in my mind.
I set the tone for my words because they speak of my emotions within.

I must own my words.

Jesus said something like this:

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things,
and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.
But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak,
they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
For by your words you will be justified,

and by your words you will be condemned.”
(Matthew 12:35-37 NKJV)

Notice. He did not say you bring for good and evil things from your mind in the opening sentence. But then he talks about Words, and you understand! Good Words. Evil Words. Justified. Condemned.

How do I control my heart?

In the verses before what we read in Matthew, Jesus says, “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks…” (v34) They Key? You need a good heart. That doesn’t come from being a great storyteller. It comes from having His Spirit profiting your heart.

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.
The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
(John 6:63 NKJV)

If anyone understood this, it must have been Jesus. He owned His Words.

Thank you for reading.
Please share with others.
It helps me get my book written!
