Lit Candle in DarknessSuddenly...

Many nights. Sleep comes… Goes…
And, if fortunate, it comes again.
The dogs barked much of the night,
I knew the Coyotes must be antagonizing.

A dead baby deer across the fence
A neighbor’s pasture sets the stage.
Just out of reach of our pup’s attention,
I suspect the coyotes must have been feeding.

Or birthing… Or making their regular rounds…
Is this their privilege, or their right, to disturb the night?
Another neighbor found a den on his property
Where they may have been years bringing new litters to life.
Maybe they’re looking for a new place?
For they sure are letting us know they’re there.

That’s where my mind was this morning. Suddenly.
As I awakened, so slowly, around 2 a.m., that word popped.
Suddenly, the night is messed up, the mind is at work,
Thankful. Sleep did make another appearance.

Most car accidents happen suddenly. I know. Been there.
Done that. Yet, we can prepare for the moment with awareness.
That’s what my dog’s barking did for me. Outside.
They are aware of the night. Guarding the pasture.

This made me think of this present world…
It’s full of darkness. Murkiness. Uncertainty.
The speed of information keeps everything churning.
I’ve watched people change. There is a darkness at their edges.

With the flip of the switch, we cancel the light.
But nothing can darken His Word.
Truth. Light. Lamp. Light. Peace. Comfort.
Don’t let the sudden dark crowd His Word from your heart.

Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.
(Psalms 119:105 NKJV)

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.
The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
(John 6:63 NKJV)

Suddenly, Awake: We cancel the light. Suddenly. The flip of the switch. But don't let anything have that power over His Word. Psalms 119:105 John 6:63 Click To Tweet
