Planning Is Invaluable
Planning is Invaluable

I’m a planner. Not necessarily a doer.
I know that plans are desperately needed.
But in war, plans are useless…
But planning is invaluable
. (Churchhill)

We plan for tomorrow and vacations,
If you’re good, you plan out every penny you spend.
Wardrobes laid out, shoes made ready,
Even gassed up car so you can scurry.

But are you planning for 50 years later?
Yes. That’s retirement I’m thinking about.
It’s more easily enjoyed when you plan today,
Then, execute the plan aggressively.

Take it even further. Planning for life afterward?
I understand it’s one way or the other.
The choices are not as many as found in retirement.
You surely want to be ready today. Who knows?

I remember this as a kid… Popeye and Wimpy.
“I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.”
It began in March of 1932. Today? I think.
This may have been the beginning of credit thinking.

The ruin of so many. Spend what you have, I say,
And not on what may be there tomorrow.
You cannot have today on hope of earnings tomorrow.
Suddenly, the bottom could drop out. The Future is Now.

I’ve learned valuable lessons through the years. Planning is so necessary. But having a plan that’s not laid out is a tragedy. Only you know it. No one else can pick through your mind to determine your wishes should you be laid up and unable to. Living Will, Life Directive, Will, and Testament. Call it what you like. I’ve been lazy about some of these things, but age tells me their wisdom is having a plan so someone else can fly the plan when needed.

Someone recently asked, “Is it too late to plan when you get old?” No! I’m not quite 70, but I still plan. It may not be as grandiose as that multi-million dollar project I worked on back in my IT days… But I still plan my life. It’s the exercise and the joy of knowing I’m more ready than not.

If you need help doing it, perhaps a tool or system will do. Send me a message, and I may have just the thought process for you!

Therefore, when I was planning this, did I do it lightly?
Or the things I plan, do I plan according to the flesh,
that with me there should be Yes, Yes, and No, No?
(2 Corinthians 1:17 NKJV)

For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it— lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace. So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.
(Luke 14:28-33 NKJV)
