Mountain view across the river and valley below
Before The Rest

It’s a long and slow climb to the top
And mountains are what I love to see
But though this equates to rest and vision
It’s in the valley that I work.

Valleys are not always narrow and dark
They are often broad and fertile
To enjoy the rest of the mountain views
You must work in the valley below.

For nearly 2/3’s of my life
I’ve been around the mountains and valleys
Though you may work to reach the top
Once there, I get to take my pause
So few are around. There, I rest and enjoy the view.

The lyrics of a song keep pressing me
Go rest high on that mountain.”
A mournful sound of a final stop
We will all experience one day.

So, from this valley low, I plow,
Plant, care, and someday harvest
The sweat on the brow and callused hands
Show that work is a valley experience.

Oh, but on that day, somewhere off yonder,
The Mountain will be my final stop
The rest, vision, and labor ended
I’ll pause just inside His gate to hear…
Well done.

As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the LORD surrounds His people From this time forth and forever.
(Psalms 125:2 NKJV)
