Audio Pause ButtonPractice the Pause

Rush through the day, week, or even a meal,
You forget to breathe, think, or take a break.
Go. Go. Go. And when you do stop?
Like a sugar high dropping, you fall into your evening exhausted.

As I age, I’ve learned to practice a “pause.”
From a power nap to a full-stop, even though busy,
And do absolutely nothing but focus on breathing.
All I do gives me the strength to face the busyness.

I’m also learning this helps spiritually.
I’ve called them Breath Prayers – they work.
Read a favorite scripture – they uplift.
Sing a favored hymn or chorus – they empower.
Listen to a favorite preacher or teacher – oh, my…
If ever I need something to “take me back, dear Lord…”
I know what corner of my mind I need to go to.

Then I pause. Restored. Ready.
Lift the load and press on.
All because, somewhere in my past,
I learned the value of a pause.

Hmmm. Maybe every six hours, an hour of rest.
Treat that seventh hour as a sabbath.
There’s scripture for the week…
Maybe I need scripture for the day.

Learning to Pause: Yesterday was Saturday. I paused the whole day. My personal Sabbath. Today is a busy day. I'll remember to take sabbath pauses throughout this busy day. Click To Tweet

Then he said to them, “This is what the LORD has said: ‘Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.’ “
(Exodus 16:23 NKJV)

For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people,
To whom He said, “This is the rest with which You may cause the weary to rest,”
And, “This is the refreshing”;
Yet they would not hear.
But the word of the LORD was to them,
“Precept upon precept, precept upon precept,
Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little,” T
hat they might go and fall backward, and be broken And snared and caught.
(Isaiah 28:11-13 NKJV)
