Children's Doodle of Hurrying Up
Hurry!

Schedule your time, and time your schedule…
Much like what my flight instructor had taught me way back when.
Plan your flight, and fly your plan.
That way, all will know the whens and the wheres
Should something happen and you’re late.

Hurry Up! … Wait!! Run! Go, Dog! Go! Whoa there, Nelly! Hurry up! Slow down! Speed Up! Do you have to go so fast? What's your hurry? Don't dawdle! Make Haste! Share on X

But we know that doesn’t always work.
Many have an internal clock that works uniquely for them.
Some set their clock a few minutes ahead
To ensure they are on time. Most of the time, it works.

Others don’t care. They show up any ol’ time they want.

As kids, we would work hard to prepare to leave the house.
Church. School. Or a trip to the country.
A reward for being ready early was the TV…
Sit down and watch Lassie, though we left before we knew
  The End Of The Story…

Why leave? Deadlines. Timers. Scheduled start times.
You don’t want to be late, even fashionably so.
In fact, to this date, I have a hard time being on time.
I make it to church sometimes hours early to be ready.

This Friday morning, we adapted our schedule.
Move our appointments around to be here for a contractor.
When promised at a set time, I expect them to be here.
I’ve been working for hours and expect them to meet their promise.

Oh, well. Hurry up… Wait… Drag out the minutes. Stay busy.
Timing? They are not here. And we’re first on their route.
I squeeze in time to write my morning post.
My bride lumbers out the vacuum cleaner.
We’ve dusted, straightened, fed the dogs, and spent more time.
This will elongate my day and change my schedule.
Yes. I’ve hurried, only to wait, and I’m working on keeping my attitude in check.

I’m reminded of the story of Lot…

Then the men said to Lot,
“Have you anyone else here? Son-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whomever you have in the city—take them out of this place! For we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the face of the LORD, and the LORD has sent us to destroy it.”
So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said,
“Get up, get out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city!”
But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking.
When the morning dawned, the angels urged Lot to hurry, saying,
“Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here,
lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city.”
And while he lingered, the men took hold of his hand, his wife’s hand, and the hands of his two daughters, the LORD being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city.
So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said,
“Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain.
Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.”

(Genesis 19:12-17 NKJV)
