Me and neighbors horse and colt
Ahha! Horses!

Rarin’ to go makes no sense in our modern world,
As does “Chompin at the bit.” Idiomatic? Or definitive?
Not in this century, at least. Back up one, then another.
There! The 1800s, or more commonly called the 19th Century.

Imagine a time before trains, cars, buses, or planes…
Most travel was done on the back of a horse.
Somewhere back there, these idioms made great sense.
That horse was “rearing” and “chomping.” Let’s Go!

Before we go too far, “chompin” comes from “champ”
And that’s a short word for “Champion!”
And that makes sense! Champions Chomp!
And “rarin'” comes from “Rearing!” That’s horse talk!

These idioms made it into the 21st Century.
We understand them in differing usage.
It’s like “pedal to the metal” or “hammer down” or “burn rubber.”
But as our travel gets fancier, I wonder what will be next.

Most of my life has been spent getting ready to go.
Work. Church. Family events. Or a Sunday drive any day of the week.
I don’t like taking this process slowly. Go, Dog! Go!
If it’s just me, I’m rarin’ to go, even if I take my time driving there.

That’s my thought today. I’m just ready to Go!
Here and there, it really doesn’t matter.
Being on the road and in control, ahha! No better feel.
I’m rarin’ to go and chomping at the bit.

I wonder…when cars drive themselves,
will we still think of them in this light? Perhaps not.
That’s why I’m happy to not get there to fast.
Slow down! Whoa! Nelly!
