Crossroads and Choices SignpostCrossroads and Choices

We’ve been told that making life-changing decisions in a crisis is not wise. The stress and pressure of the moment push us to choose, and these choices are not always the best. Even if you make the correct decision, the emotional toll of choosing may mean a rougher roller coaster ride the next time.

Questions like: Did I do right? Was this the only answer? Why did I make this choice at this time?

The pressure to choose. That’s my question. Door number 1, 2, or 3? Which will it be?

Standing at the crossroads,
Which way do I choose?
Life is a series of minute choices,
And you are the result of you.

What if there’s another option, and you only find that answer after you step back from the pressure and weigh the options or look deeper now? You can go too far down this path. Think, “Analysis Paralysis.” Making better choices requires a deeper analysis than the emotion of the moment.

I tagged back in an hour after posting with one additional thought: What got you to this point where you have to decide now?

There will always be times when you have no time, and a decision made in haste is often your only choice. Maybe the better thought is to answer the question, “How prepared are you for the next decision you must make?

It is the characteristic excellence of the strong man
that he can bring momentous issues to the fore
and make a decision about them.
The weak are always forced to decide between alternatives

they have not chosen themselves.
~Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Strength and Weakness are in play. Your mind, emotions, alternatives, and the position you find yourself standing at. Sometimes, the decision is a hard-won battle with yourself. Maybe it’s not the direction you want, but the results produce the future you’re excited about.

Before you choose,
Think it through,
Weigh your options.
Choose with solutions in mind.

He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty,
And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
The lot is cast into the lap,
But its every decision is from the LORD.
