Some years back, and I wish my memory was better, I read the story of how one person exuded so much influence that he changed the world around him. Others acquiesced or were isolated. Some stayed away, while others flocked. Some said, no way! Others eagerly became part of the change. It’s not a Pied Piper I’m thinking of, nor the politick (yes, it’s an archaic spelling!) weirdness of the day; rather, it’s about how one person has influence. And we allow them this control.
As I read back through my history, I find this is a common theme to think through.
The Power of One
January 16, 2024
As I look through life around me,
I, too, see the power of one.
Whether for the good or not,
One influences their world a little or a lot.
How are you influenced by the one?
All of us will accept some influence,
But others will reject or blindly embrace,
It all depends on the “one” and their power.
Your acceptance.
Or rejection.
Who is this one with power?
It’s really a two-way street.
The one that wants to change.
And the one that will be changed.
As for me…and mine?
I pray others will be as strong as I hope I am,
But we often see families and communities change
As the power of a particular “one.”
Sets a new stage. Presto! Magic! Changed!
Is change good? Can be. It depends.
We follow the masses who follow the one,
And that’s not always a good thing.
But try to change away from that direction?
You’ll see.
It’s often harder than you think.
If I’m easily distracted, and I admit I am,
Then, it may be giving the power to “one.”
From a mind so interfered, “one” can slip in.
Before you know it, How did this happen?
One word can change our minds,
One thought can open up creation or equally destruction.
If it only takes the power of “one,”
What will this life be like when “one” takes complete control?
That day may soon be here.
Maybe it’s already come.
A long time ago, I gave my life to Christ.
He’s my influence and savior and directs my path.
So, with my focus intact, maybe my question is this:
Who will I be the “one” to? Someone needs me as their “one.”
A new commandment I give to you,
that you love one another;
as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
By this all will know that you are My disciples,
if you have love for one another.”
(John 13:34-35 NKJV)
But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write to you,
for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another;
(1 Thessalonians 4:9 NKJV)
