Christmas Stars on a PianoDo You Hear What I Hear

My bride and I sit side by side
For over 50 years, we’ve been each other’s
Why would I be surprised,
Each of us hears something differently.

Our hearing is not equal, okay?
But that doesn’t mean a thing.
From inside, early this morning,
She hears the dogs. I don’t.
I hear the birds, and she says, “Not I.”

The dogs are way off in the pasture.
The birds are out the window behind us.
The dogs are 500 feet away!
The birds are just 3-4 feet away!

Think about it, and you’ll know it’s true.
We seldom hear life equally the same.
And that’s the blessing of a good partner.
We need each other to live life together.
Balance. Help. Support. Together, we’re better.

At this time, I’ve learned. Trust her hearing.
She hears differently than I do.
Trust is a two-way street. When I say,
The birds, and she the dogs,
Do you hear what I hear?

The season we’ve entered, can you hear?
We’re told why we need to get together.
It’s all about “family, gifts, and celebration.”
Really? Do you hear what I hear?

I hear the angel telling Mary…Joseph…
Something special is about to happen.
I hear the angels singing to the shepherds,
Proclaiming the birth of our Lord.

I listen to the Leading of the Wise Men by Star,
The calling of Herod to destroy.
I’ve been down this path of His Word often,
Not one time do I hear jingling or “ho, ho, ho.”

Remember, we each hear differently.
I keep my focus on His Word.
If ever there’s a reason for this season,
It’s to affirm I hear what He hears.

Do You Hear What I Hear: Let this be the season when we listen to what the Lord hears and not what the world shouts. A different drummer? Sure. I follow a different sound. Click To Tweet

Matthew 2:1-12 NKJV

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”
When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. So they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: ‘BUT YOU, BETHLEHEM, IN THE LAND OF JUDAH, ARE NOT THE LEAST AMONG THE RULERS OF JUDAH; FOR OUT OF YOU SHALL COME A RULER WHO WILL SHEPHERD MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.’ ”
Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.”
When they heard the king, they departed;
and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them,
till it came and stood over where the young Child was.
When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
And when they had come into the house,
they saw the young Child with Mary His mother,
and fell down and worshiped Him.
And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way.
