I’m soon to be another year older.
From as early as I can remember
We honored our country.
With pledges recited and songs sung.
In classrooms, the flag was honored.
In assemblies, the nation elevated.
Scouts. Baseball games.
And prayers were often present.
Somewhere through the past six decades
Our country has lost its way.
We’ve changed.
It may be the signs of times,
But I still get teary-eyed when reminded.
I pledge allegiance, and God Bless America,
And remember, America, my country, ‘Tis of thee…
Remember the song about our flag?
Say, can you see? By dawn’s early light.
What so proudly we hailed, at twilight’s last gleaming.
It was there last night? Is it there this morning?
Our motto? Sure, it’s in God we trust.
Just look at your money.
Of course, as the currency goes digital,
We will probably lose this motto to a faint history.
Remember one thing.
Patriotism isn’t just a feeling.
It’s the action to support and keep it focused.
Forward, nation, and people. Keep moving into the future.
