Have you ever felt the yearning?
Of life winding up and the end’s in sight,
The trip wraps up. The time to leave is soon.
But there’s so much left to do.
Sitting in the hotel dining room
Watching the pool swirl and move
Nowhere to go. Yet, still, it tries. To go. Move.
No beginning. No ending. Just there.
That’s not me. I have a purpose.
Miles to go, yes, before I sleep.
But each segment of the day or hour of time
Has a job, task, or purpose. Must Complete.
Life’s current carved-out section of life
It’s soon coming to an end, just a wee bit too soon.
I’m ready to go. It was too hot yesterday.
But were it winter, I’d be willing to stay.
Just a few days longer.
Maybe that’s how we fight for life, you know,
The last breath before we’re gone.
I’ve watched many wanting to breathe,
Though pain is released on the other side,
Still, they struggle to continue breathing.
Why? We don’t want to give up.
I’ll wrap up my schedule, fly home soon,
To a waiting world of busy. I think.
I should not have stayed here so long.
There’s much to finish there. Just about done.
Ecclesiastes 1:3-9 NKJV)
What profit has a man from all his labor
In which he toils under the sun?
One generation passes away, and another generation comes;
But the earth abides forever.
The sun also rises, and the sun goes down,
And hastens to the place where it arose.
The wind goes toward the south,
And turns around to the north;
The wind whirls about continually,
And comes again on its circuit.
All the rivers run into the sea,
Yet the sea is not full;
To the place from which the rivers come,
There they return again.
All things are full of labor;
Man cannot express it.
The eye is not satisfied with seeing,
Nor the ear filled with hearing.
That which has been is what will be,
That which is done is what will be done,
And there is nothing new under the sun.
