Winners never quit, and quitters never win.
Or so the saying goes.
But what is winning? Losing?
Is it all about the trophy and celebration?
The challenge of this thought comes to me this morning.
For one to win, someone must lose.
That goes against the grain of life, right?
No. Winners adapt. Losers never change.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
When losers do win and win they sometimes do.
There is something false about their victory.
Maybe it’s the vindictiveness that still exists,
In their gleeful celebration.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease, right?
For some, that’s how they win. But wait!
Change winning to whining. Did you catch that?
That’s what squeakiness sounds like to me!
There are winners,
there are losers
and there are people who have not yet learned how to win.
~Les Brown
You can never spot the true winner.
They meld in with the crowd.
But losers, even when they win,
Are celebrating and making a show of themselves.
Losers never listen. Winners are still listening.
Because the win is in comprehension,
And understanding comes when we listen.
Listen forward comes to mind.
Failures are expected by losers,
ignored by winners.
~Joe Gibbs
Losers never consider this simple truth,
They are their own worst enemies.
While winners know this salient fact,
You never win by yourself. It’s about others.
Losers are always bitter,
Anger stacks up, words are harsh,
Their emotions flash and burn
Everyone within their realm.
The difference between winning and losing
is most often not quitting.
~Walt Disney
But winners… Listen, winners may be jubilant.
But they know they won with others
And for others, not themselves, they keep striving
To include and be inclusive. True winners are not whiners.
Is there a time when losers are winners?
Sure. Losing weight makes you a winner.
Finishing, even when dead last, makes you a winner.
Not giving up, even when you hurt. Yep! Winner.
There are always losers when society evolves.
In the free market, these losers are expected
and encouraged to retrain
and find new ways to survive and thrive.
~John McAfee
Less you think I’m talking about you.
I’m not. This thought came from a slice of morning news.
A coach. A sport. A prayer at the end of any game.
Winning or losing, keeping your attitude in check.
That’s a winner. I’ll celebrate every time.

[Two winners, One Loser]
The soldiers also mocked Him,
coming and offering Him sour wine, and saying,
“If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself.”
And an inscription also was written over Him
in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew:
THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying,
“If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.”
But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying,
“Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?
And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds;
but this Man has done nothing wrong.”
Then he said to Jesus,
“Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”
And Jesus said to him,
“Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”
