Today, I stepped out of my comfort zone
Leaving some responsibilities behind
For the chance to spend some family time
Even though the plate feels full.
I gave up some special times in life
To get to where I am today.
Along the way, I’ve seen the hurts
That is felt when time is stolen away.
No more. No longer. I’m changing my tune.
Share the load with those quite capable
You don’t have to be the only one
To miss out on those that need you.
For those who have worked hard to achieve
And felt the loss of those who moved out and on,
Don’t let your later years be filled with regret
Selfishness is a one-way street.
If you give it, the day will come you’ll surely feel it.
You were joined together and brought new life
Make your focus on them still. Now. Today.
If you gain it all but lose their hope or love,
Can you count the Value over the Loss?
Maybe an open letter will help.
Or maybe it’s just for me.
Regardless of how you sense it,
I’ve let it flow out of me if you need it.
2 Samuel 18:31-33 NKJV
[David’s Grief]
Just then the Cushite came, and the Cushite said,
“There is good news, my lord the king!
For the LORD has avenged you this day of all those who rose against you.”
And the king said to the Cushite,
“Is the young man Absalom safe?”
So the Cushite answered,
“May the enemies of my lord the king,
and all who rise against you to do harm,
be like that young man!”
Then the king was deeply moved,
and went up to the chamber over the gate,
and wept.
And as he went, he said thus:
“O my son Absalom—my son, my son Absalom—
if only I had died in your place!
O Absalom my son, my son!”
