I live in a place where many think it rains all the time.
That’s just not true.
We have summer months where it’s dry as a bone, petrifying in the hot desert air. We are a ways from any desert. It’s green year-round. We are known as the “evergreen” state.
When we get rain, we are sometimes startled as the creeks and rivers fill up, as we only receive 1-2 inches in 24 hours. Down south? We would get that much in less than an hour! Gully Washers! A hurricane stalled off the coast of Texas, and we got 26 inches of rain in 24 hours!
Back then, I worked across town and had to go to work at low tide!
Comparing the two worlds, you must remember we have a mountain range eastward, and it collects and distributes weather systems. We may get little rain where I live, but the same rain in the mountains has nowhere to go but down and out – into the valleys, rivers, and streams, as it drains into the oceans. It comes our way!
We get winter storms with high winds for days and rain that never stops. Today? I will enjoy this light rain for the blessings it brings.
Know the purpose, seize the season, and enjoy the rain!
Thankful and blessed! Maybe my dried-up grass will turn green a little bit longer! We mow most of our 5 acres and would hate to put up the lawnmowers until the fall!
Take advantage of the rain! It’s washing the wildfire smoke and other pollutants out of the air (don’t ask about where that junk goes, our oceanographers warn us all the time.)
