You Get Used To It

A listener is good at doing their calling – they listen. They are an active listener and can respond appropriately with words and questions to clarify or solicit more information.

Ditto for someone who communicates well. Finishes well. Or even a self-starter who is good at getting their world up and running.

We are all good at something. Right? Maybe.

How do you get used to it?

Pick on the times we are in, and you do well to understand not everything works well for everyone. Anyone. I strive to stay available and open to communication with many platforms. Social, mobile, land, email, snail-mail, messenger, text… Get the picture? It’s hard to remember where I heard from someone so that I can connect with them on their preferred source. I recently asked for input one way, received the answer another way, and was updated a third way!

You get used to it.

It’s like getting used to cloud storage. If you are like me, you have Google, Microsoft, and Apple. Where is what I need when I need it, and how do I exchange it from here to there or back again? Eventually, they all fill up, and you buy more storage.

On top of all that, you use a backup service, so you store it differently.

Where do you store all your data locally in case the cloud dissipates?

You get used to it.

Everywhere I’ve lived, I focused on learning the pathways to get me from here to there so I can choose what’s best during a journey.

The construction, accident, storm, or other event closes down a path. If you are not like me, you get stuck behind a line of people who are clueless.

That’s not me!

If you are like me, you adapt. Learn quickly so that you can react quickly. This means being situationally aware. Lead. Follow. Or get out of my way! I’m taking a shortcut!

My mind is full of thoughts and words. I recently shared, “If I read, then I write.” Since I read a lot, my mind tells me of much to be shared. So, I write.

You get used to people not reading. Maybe they are not readers? Give them some grace. But for you? Keep reading and writing. That’s the job of a communicator.

In this blog, I put tag words that can be searched. I title each article to instruct and point you to the subject, hopefully. There’s a search technique I use in Google: “Michael Gurley Prayers.” Pick any keyword you want, add my name, and Google will show you a list of my posts. Of course, you may also find the rock guitarist that is not me, but you get the picture.

A final thought always comes to mind
I wished that I could do my calling better
Someone suggests, “Write what they want.”
To which I reply, I don’t know what they want!

So, I write what my find is brimming with
You get used to the fact that some will read,
A few will comment, but the masses
Follow the lemming’s cry of follow that leader,
No! This one! Let’s try that! No, now try this!
