Thinking over my past and recent past, all the while looking forward to the ‘morrows of life, I realized there are many ways of sharing. It’s all about being a complete person and do the things we know to do, but making choices to be better in the things we’ve slacked off from.
So, in my morning rumblings, I want to share this thought:
It’s not just the written word or speaking. It’s equally about doing and being.
Of course, putting your doing and being into words gives you the platform of ideas from which you can write or talk about. Right? Well, it may be time to write what you believe and check your actions.
What you say and what you do,
Are they in tune with each other?
Or do they clash, and you find
You are not practicing what you preach?
Why not just do, and be instead of writing or talking? Actions speak louder than words, whether you write them or speak them.
It’s Biblical
The Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Philippi, and if you know anything about me, you will find this is foundational in my life and teaching. His written word to a church is to “practice what you preach.” Be who you say you are, but a little fact-checking is always in order.
Practice what you’ve learned and received from me,
what you heard and saw me do.
Then the God who gives this peace will be with you.
(Philippians 4:9 GW)
Yes… I write about this section of scripture a lot. But I see it as very important.
Thimk and Do (Click to Read my thought on Thimk!)
Test yourself against these words. Are your actions a sum of those who taught you? Would they reflect on others so that you pass a better way of life forward? Do we live what we believe? Perspective gets thrown in the mix. Not only how you see another, but how you see yourself.
My Self-Check Truth List
Write a self-check list to identify what you believe, and then check yourself against that list.
I pulled this list together just sitting down and mind-mapping my framework.
- Keep your inner thoughts, recommendations, and frustrations to yourself.
- Keep your emotions intact, and be steady every day.
- Be quick with a smile – they will never know what you’re thinking.
- Be the example, but always be ready to adapt when required.
- Be quick to forgive, forget, and move on.
- Love others no matter if they ever love you back.
- Never slam a door closed. Always leave a way to open it up again.
- Share truth with your life. When necessary, use words.
- Challenge mediocrity in yourself before even thinking about pointing it out in others.
- Go back to truth #1 and start over again. Refine and refresh this list. Every day, all the time.
