Yes... Last Friday of August, 2022

Friday, August 26, 2022.

Finally, the back of summer heat is broken for the weekend. It’s only supposed to be 71 today! Hallelujah. Now, say, “Amen!” The sermon’s over, and it’s time to enjoy the day.

That’s how I feel. Now, all will be perfect if fall and winter show up early!

What do we do on a beautiful day like today? Make The Day Count!

My bride is off on Fridays and has a three-day weekend every week. Today? We take care of appointments. Tomorrow? We enjoy the yard. Sunday is all about church, and who knows when we’ll have such a perfect weekend again?

My motto today is from the words of John Wesley:

“Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.”
~John Wesley, Letters of John Wesley

I do not want to discount the responsibilities and timing of this season. Too often, we make excuses for the choices we make. Imagine it’s the Last Supper. No one is there but Jesus. What would you think? What was their reason? Why and how did they bail out of a solemn responsibility and commitment?

Peter – “My mother-in-law came in for the weekend.”
Andrew – “I was up kinda late last night.”
James (the son of Zebedee) – “Really needed some ‘me’ time.”
John – “I was there last week. Besides, I’m not being fed.”
Philip – “Finally had a sunny day to hit the lake.”
Bartholomew – “Had brunch scheduled with my Uncle Zed.”
Thomas – “I doubt it would have been any good today.”
Matthew – “I had to get my taxes done.”
James (the son of Alphaeus) – “My dad (Alphaeus) wanted to fish today.”
Thaddaeus – “The kids needed a rest day.”
Simon – “I didn’t hear my alarm because I didn’t set it. Because I don’t have one.”
Judas – “Getting tired of hearing the same old message.”

What if you married your forever spouse, only to have them bail out mid-way? Or, do your children turn their back on you, or do you do the same to them? What emergency could be more important than family?

Have you ever ghosted someone or been ghosted yourself?

What if you gave up? Walked away? Turned your back on everything and became a rover?

Again. I ask: What do we do on a beautiful day like today? Make The Day Count!

As we head into the last weekend of August, something is always here to think about.
