Do Lord! Do Remember Me!

It’s the ending of a long start to the weekend. You would have to know why I say it like this, but I’m glad it’s over, and I’m sitting comfortably before my computer screen, preparing for Sunday.

On my last journey to put something away, this song popped into my spirit, and I started singing it under my breath. It is said to be a 19th-century African American spiritual sung often by slaves toiling in the fields. I don’t know. I know this: I’ve sung it most, if not all, of my life.

So, I enjoyed with my mind thinking about it through and through. The words spilled to an outside voice. The words you read here are not found in a hymnal that I copied from or from a website with different verses. They are words in my memory, so I’m not sure who put the verses to the melody. I promptly made up new verses I forgot when I turned the key off in my truck. I’m just saying!

Here’s a scripture you may associate to the song, although there are many you could find:

Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”
(Luke 23:42 NKJV)

Do Lord, Do Lord, Do Remember Me

Do Lord, do Lord, Do remember me.
Do Lord, do Lord, Do remember me,
Do Lord, do Lord, Do remember me,
Oh, Do Remember Me!

I took Jesus as my savior, you take him too!
I took Jesus as my savior, you take him too!
I took Jesus as my savior, you take him too!
While he’s still calling you!

I’ve got a home in glory land that outshines the sun!
I’ve got a home in glory land that outshines the sun!
I’ve got a home in glory land that outshines the sun!
Way beyond the blue!

Do you want to hear what it may have sounded like with a voice as old as our history singing?
