I’m always reading. I’ve been a reader all my life. From researching Christmas Catalogues, and making Wish Lists (Produced by Sears and Montgomery Wards), where we would read and mark up the pages as if we were writing our life’s story.
P.D. Eastman (Dr. Seuss), Franklin W. Dixon (Hardy Boys ghostwriter), Louis L’Amour, James Michener, James Alexander Tom, Tom Clancy, Alastair MacLean… Well. You will notice my habit of reading fiction, including Historical Fiction.
Novels had a way of turning my adventure spirit into a “Let’s go there! Do that! Enjoy there!”
If I wanted to learn something new, I would absorb the subject via books long before being satisfied with a classroom experience.
Along the way, theological, leadership, history, biographical, how-to’s, and a host of other topics crowded my plate. In between, I learned to program in over 37 languages, which required much reading and studying.
Could it be from some of my earliest reading habits I find the nugget that sets my path on reading?
“The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
~Dr. Seuss
Now, adding in the desire to meet authors and writers through the years, it’s only fair that I begin writing for others to read. Hence, this blog. It’s headed to a book of my own, a collection of favorite blog posts.
New Book Sunday: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” ~Dr. Seuss Share on XNew Thought, New Paragraph…
A friend of mine and he knows who he is, started a printing business in his garage. Menu’s, flyers, booklets, business cards, letterhead… You name it. It became his business if he could design it and his press could print it. Our first church in Anchorage, Alaska, was gifted things you could only pay for. To that, we are always grateful. M.M., thanks!
But the printing business model changed. Each product became something that could be personalized, and what you might have invested in last year is no longer valued this year. Today you no longer need to hold an inventory of pre-printed books, you can print on demand as someone buys the book. It’s changed how we think about buying and selling books.
Since I read far and wide and am always looking for something that helps me grow and enjoy, I am determined to start a new category on my Blog. You can find it if you click this link: “Things I Recommend.” It will take you to my category for things I recommend. Today? It only includes books that are my favorites. In the future? Who knows what I will share!
New Book Sunday. Why Sunday? The start of a week is always a good time to think about what may be worth my while on the reading table.
Michael Hyatt
Today, I’m sharing from a contact who has been in the Christian Book Publishing industry for a long time and retired into his writing, private business, and “coaching” world. Michael Hyatt. Over the past dozen years or so, it seems to be a dozen, I have found much value.
One of my favorite books to re-read is what I’m focusing on this week.
Living Forward: A Proven Plan to Stop Drifting and Get the Life You Want by Michael Hyatt
I first bought this hardcopy a few years ago, but since I’ve migrated to digital readers, I just bought it as a Kindle Book. You may find more of his books and journals you can use to document and plan your life. What drew me to him was a webinar revolving around his coaching, writing, and the easy way he made sense.

Your Best Year Ever by Michael Hyatt
Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World by Michael Hyatt (I first bought this book in 2012! Ten years ago!)
Suffice it to say, I’ve enjoyed his gifted words. They’ve touched my life, and I want to share them with you.
