Sometimes our worst enemy is ourselves, and sometimes the best one to move us off our center is the person we see in a mirror each morning. There’s something about knowing who we are, what we are like, how we choose to live, and the things we miss because we are not situationally aware.
This past Monday, I made a personal commitment to Trust the Lord. It’s not a phrase like “In God We Trust.” Instead, it’s putting God in as the “first string” and not as the bench warmer who finally gets called into the game because everyone else is hurt.
In His famous First Sermon (on the Mount), Jesus challenged the listeners with this phrase:
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness,
and all these things shall be added to you.
Matthew 6:33 NKJV
Jesus has been teaching about our needs, choices, treasures, and other foundational thoughts. He’s set the table with royal words and invited us to partake of the Bread of Heaven. But the focus on everything must be God First, everything second.
Do you want to meet the love of your life? Start a better career? Grow a family? It matters little what you want if God is not First.
Making a Personal Challenge: This past Monday, I committed to Trust the Lord. It's not a phrase like "In God We Trust." Instead, it's putting God in as the "first string" and not as the bench warmer who finally gets called into the game… Share on XHence, my challenge. Trust God.
Would you like to read about the first time I trusted God, and He did not let me down? Click Here. It’s okay. It’s a blog post from 2015 that explains the time it first happened.
How can we live as Christians if we do not trust the Lord? Our foundation is wrapped around the idea of putting God before every personal desire. He will give us the desire of our hearts! (Psalms 37:4) He knows our path and orders our steps. (Psalms 37:23)
Walking with God, we learn patience.
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
I waited patiently for the LORD;
And He inclined to me, And heard my cry.
He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay,
And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps.
He has put a new song in my mouth—Praise to our God;
Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the LORD.
Blessed is that man who makes the LORD his trust,
And does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
Psalms 40:1-4 NKJV
Do you want to know the power of the God you trust? The Bible is full of his goodness and help! I love Psalms 118 and especially love these few verses.
The LORD is on my side; I will not fear.
What can man do to me?
The LORD is for me among those who help me;
Therefore I shall see my desire on those who hate me.
It is better to trust in the LORD Than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust in the LORD Than to put confidence in princes.
Psalms 118:6-9 NKJV
Here’s a key lesson. Along with everything else you do, when you challenge yourself to Trust the Lord, he comes through with flying colors! In other words? God First, everything else gets taken care of!
