During the past five weeks, we’ve had house guests who were more than someone just dropping in for a fly-by visit. Each had a purpose, and for each, we enjoyed who they were and why they were here.
None were more important than my brother and sister-in-law, who came alongside our life to help us get some important tasks and jobs accomplished. My carport is closer to a full realization than if I alone worked on it, and my office is only awaiting an A/C for me to move into. Great food, shared life, games around the table, and a little downtime factored in for a feeling of normalcy.
Monday was a holiday, but it’s also my normal day off, so we double rested because it was a double kind of day. We rested and did very little except care for the pets and chickens. Of course, it was also a holiday and we had to calm our dogs and stray cat through the late-night miniature bombs and fireworks that my new neighbor enjoyed. Had I been younger and animal-less, I would have loved sitting curbside for the show.
It’s Today’s Grind
Today (Tuesday) is a busily scheduled day, but I’m still tired! There’s no time for doing nothing, but I feel like doing nothing. When it’s time to get back to the grind, I’m having difficulty cranking that handle.
My book and writing partners are awaiting my return to normal. There are a few side-gigs I must return to, creating the money source to publish my world. Add some church responsibilities, and it would seem there’s nothing left in life to do but work, work, work!
In my years of living, working, and doing, I’ve learned one must factor in rest times. If you don’t, there’s a crash-n-burn just waiting to happen. Since I don’t sleep past 6-7 hours per night, with the usual 5 hours being acceptable, I am forcing myself to re-enter this grind more slowly than I might have done a few years ago. There’s been an extra siesta I would usually never take. A few hours of soft music thrown into the mix and catching up on setting my schedule for tomorrow (Wednesday.) Reading material is calling, but my eyes and mind are too tired.
Look! It’s drizzling, and they call it showers! What a refreshing summer. Just walking in the rain…I’m ready! Let’s go.
