Friday July 1stSo Long June!

June has become a hodgepodge of recognition. This day, that day. These 30 days, and those 30 days. One group claims the entire month, and fathers get a single day. Although Summer begins in the month when growing up, school let out in May, and we had June to count as a whole vacation time. Not today. For many, the school does not let out until you are nearly three weeks into the month.

June is so carved up and convoluted. It’s become stressful. Can we skip it next year? Hip! Hip! Hooray!

Life used to be simple. But we’ve made it complex. As we add history to the mix, we will remember June special if we are students of the times. Were we to skip the month, what important days would be missed? Birthdays? Anniversaries? Death Dates? Holidays?

What happened in June that impacted us all? With several Supreme Court Rulings, old laws were affirmed, and some changed. In many jurisdictions, new “codes and ordinances” were ushered in. Our fragile economy is seemingly headed down to Shattersville.

But wait! We’ve still got the Pandemic hanging over our every decision.

June Is A Step In Time

Last June (it only ended yesterday), I missed some essential calendar commitments for personal growth. Since we don’t cry over spilled milk, I’ve bucked up and moved onward anyway.

Maybe this is the key. Rally and cry out against the inequity of anything you feel, but realize June was just a step in time that promotes us forward. Thirty days do not ultimately define our position. Your life is not defined by your worst moment unless you label yourself with the words all will remember.

We climbed into the ’90s for a few days, but last year it was into the ‘100s. Here in Western Washington, we set rain records. Moving into July, we still have nights in the high ’40s and low ’50s. My grass needs to be mowed once more, and then July and August take over. Dry? Here we come!

I’m pushing myself forward regardless of what I remember last month as.

Today is a New Day

I awoke to a new month, new day, same ol’ year. July has its celebrations and important dates to bring us to focus. Essentially, it’s no different than last month. Our planet is beginning to tilt away from the sun, so we are on the downward slope of summer. It’s 173 days from the kickoff of Winter! In 365 days, we will return to this space and time. Only we will be a year older.

Maybe this is my thought today. It’s a New Day. It sort of sounds like a morning talk show. Okay. What’s your pleasure? You can either spend time talking about June or doing something today. Likewise, you can spend time discussing the future or pick up that shovel and do some work today.

I presented some needs to a couple of younger men thinking I could encourage them to think about “doing life” instead of sitting around all summer doing nothing. Their first question? How much are you paying? My first dollar was mowing a swimming pool fenced-in yard area, carrying the lifeguards’ lunch to and from our refrigerator for a nickel, and picking up bottles to claim their deposit. I guess I’m saying I made way for money to roll in and never thought how much I would earn. Just get up and get busy!

My whole life has been lived this way. Just get up. Get busy. Daylight’s wasting away. No time like the present. Are you ready? Let’s Roll.

As We Leave June: Our planet is beginning to tilt away from the sun, so we are on the downward slope of summer. It's 173 days from the kickoff of Winter! In 365 days, we will return to this space and time. Only we will be a year older. Click To Tweet
