Achievement Missed
Why Did I Miss An Achievement Goal?

Today is the 10th day of the new year. What are your records thus far? If you only count back to the first, you’ve had nine days to begin a new you. Did you take on too much? Is life pouncing and bouncing your plans? If so, take a thousand-yard stare and realize the truth. You have been at this a long time, and there are other records you’ve broken, milestones you’ve achieved. You’ve added new goals every day for the next long haul.

We are breaking records! We’re all good at it one way or the other. What’s a record for you may only be a “so what” for me. To each his own, I’m sure!

Here’s one Kindle just notified me about on 01/09/2022…

Records!

This popped up in my Kindle Reader on Sunday. Yesterday. Exhilarating, at first, then I wondered….

What happened in Week Zero?
Indeed I read something then!
What happened on Day Zero?
Surely a day didn’t go by that I failed to read!
Then I realized, maybe the record only goes back as far as my device?
Nope. This device is less than a year old!
Did I change my account, or did something break?
What happened back then to have only achieved
These small numbers
I’ll probably never know.
I’m sure there’s not a day, week, month, or year.
That my nose isn’t buried into one book or another.

A quick bit of calculation at my favorite date calculating web page I discovered that Week Zero was in June 2018. Nothing special happened back then. Day Zero? We were in the throes of fighting the pandemic, but it would not have caused me to miss a day or week of reading. My Kindle is my GoTo Reader! From Bible to study books, novels, and history. I use Kindle all the time!

I’m Not Sure

As we move deeper into #TwentyTwentyTwo, we will each break some records. Some will be good, others bad, and some we’ll scratch our heads and say, Hunh…! What Do We Do Now?

Time to start all over again.
Forget a day of Bible Reading,
and you find it easier to either play catchup
or put it off even further into the month.
Skip a season of prayer,
and you may not remember the comfort you found
when you went to the Lord on your knees.
Forget how to Worship or listen to the preached Word of God.
Do it long enough, and you’ll wonder why and how.
That’s the worry, the fret, and the fear.
Some will miss it enough, and they’ll wander ever so far
When they are reminded of it by you, me, or anyone
They’ll probably say, Why, I don’t miss it at all.

It’s not that we want to give excuses, but life often has a way of preempting our plans. If life can wreck Holiday plans, “Get to Work On Time” goals, or “I still need to lose weight” type of goal – life can destroy something you add every day to that which you must do. Maybe that’s the problem.

We don’t see our reading, praying, studying, and worship
as something that’s part of life.
It’s not our life. It’s only an add-on.

As someone new to my world puts it, “…just one page per day…” and this should be a good starting point for all of us.

A Starting Place

Make a start
any starting line will do
Name a time
again it’s what works for you
Pick your focus
The Word, Prayer, and Worship
If it’s important to you
then it’s something you’ll always do.
But if you miss
as we are all prone to do
Don’t kick yourself till your down
Simple, and truly it is again
A Starting Place Anew
