Complex FreewayComplexity of Life

I’ve written for years about how life is all about the journey and not just the destination. We should have a future time and place we aim for, but life’s absolute joy is making the trip well.

We are planning a driving trip that will soon arrive. Much planning has gone into each step of the way. “What if…” are met with contingency plans, but there could always be a gotcha moment when you have no clue what to do or how to handle the moment. What do you do? You fall back on experience, skill, and a certain amount of “luck” to deal with the moment.

I’ve guestimated, in my adult life, I’ve driven over 2 million miles. Since I’m living to my triple digits, that’s 33 years more of travel. Contingencies exist. I’m still enjoying scenic bypasses, but the highway speed travel still calls me on.

Think about a busy highway. It’s downright scary that someone designed the road system like this, much less expect us to drive it with speeders and heavy traffic! I’ve watched those I call “ditch divers” who only seem to know how to make the correct turn at the last moment, and across many lanes of traffic. They are creating problems from themselves and all others! Wrecks waiting to happen! Don’t be a Ditch Diver. Pass your turn, do a legal U-turn down the road, and come back and try it again.

When life becomes complex, and it will, don’t panic. Just keep your head forward and your heart in tune with the Lord.

Here’s My Thought

Think with me today, whether or not your destination is in view, how do you face the future? Can you keep traveling onward so that you are successful in your final days? When the going gets tough…or say some…the tough get going. No Pain. No Gain. There is no easy way out.

On many fronts, this defines me. I don’t quit. Back up. Turn away from the challenge, nor throw in the towel. But I do whittle away the distractions that make me look left and right.

Still, I watch many folks slow down, turn around, and go back. To what? I’m not sure. If you can do it in your natural life, I’m sure your spiritual life is equally suspect. What’s that old song I have liked to sing from my teen years? “We’ve come this far by faith! Leaning on the Lord. Trusting in his mighty word. He’s never failed me yet.”

I found this quote a few days ago and it really speaks volumes to my spirit.

“Accepting Jesus… is the start of the journey;
Eternity with Jesus… is the end of the journey;
Getting to know Jesus… IS the journey.”
~Ranal Currie

Let’s keep the faith. Lean on Him. Trust His Word. Spend more time in prayer. Congregate for worship and connection. It’s difficult facing life by yourself. Don’t try.

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD,
And He delights in his way.
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;
For the LORD upholds him with His hand.
I have been young, and now am old;
Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,
Nor his descendants begging bread.
(Psalms 37:23-25 NKJV)
