New Day Rising
New Day Rising

It’s an old song, and I can hear my grandmother singing it in the recesses of my mind. “What a day, that will be, when my Jesus I shall see…when I look upon his face. The one who saved me by his grace!” She crossed over in 1993 and enjoyed that day she had sung about for years. Can you imagine it?

Well, this was a song dad sang often. Why? Mom and I were talking about the songs dad loved to sing. I never remember him singing fast songs, only those slow songs. Old songs. Songs that matched his voice, temperament and beliefs. His repertoire was full of good ol’ slow songs!

Again, in my mind I hear him singing those songs. One after the other. Sometimes changing the key to sing high, and dropping low, and making up words and lines if he got misplaced along the way. Mixing gospel and country! Oh how he loved these songs!

Think about it with me.

Today, that aging voice is singing with youthful vigor. Those words are never forgotten. But. I also know he’s singing a new song. Just like David instructs us.

“Hallelujah!
Sing a new song to the LORD.
Sing his praise in the assembly of godly people.”
Psalms 149:1 (GW)

Who’s with him? I can hear my grandmother joining him. Singing a new song she learned 25 years ago. Who else? My sister. Singing a new song she learned just last year.

That’s my hope. It’s not based on yesterday’s trial, but tomorrow’s possibilities.

Are you ready to sing your new song? I’ll join you someday, dad… Love you!

What a day that will be! When my Jesus I shall see! When I look upon his face! The one who saved me by His grace! When he takes me by the hand, and leads me to the promised land! What a day, glorious day, that will be! Share on X
