Thinking Aloud
“Thinking Aloud”

I recently read a story that posited the dangers we would all face if suddenly we could read one another’s thoughts. As in, we couldn’t do it yesterday, but today. Voila! Read away!

How different life might have developed had we lived with this ability all along! No more harboring negative thoughts, or thinking the worst instead of the best. The weirdness of it all may be that our “first thought” about something would be instant fodder for the masses! No longer can we “think it through”…

I can only imagine!

Here’s my thinking process today.

We think “aloud” and by our actions and comments one may interpret the substrata of your mind. We find the “cancel society” blasting away at those who speak their mind, or even ask a question they’ve not quite thought through. Instead of helping the conversation along toward a positive conclusion, naysayers take to social media and every other avenue to castigate a public official, or a kid on the side of the road. Enraged, they lash, kick, scream, yell and act out worse than the event possibly demands.

What’s going on? They are “thinking aloud” – what turmoil they feel on the inside is boiling out into the public.

Their response allows me to read their thoughts. It’s an ugly minefield just looking for an excuse to blow up. Instead of looking for times and places of safe detonation, or defusing, they allow the pressures to build up for the completely innocent to experience.

How Do We Handle These Thoughts

The wise man, Solomon, wrote about this.

“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: …
Proverbs 23:7 (KJV)

In my way of thinking, it’s how what I choose to allow roosting space in my mind. Those things I dwell on, nor process very well, will come out and make itself known in other avenues of my life.

Think about those thoughts ruminating through billions of minds. Right now, the good, bad, and ugly, is running rampant through minds. No matter their brilliance in some areas, many will act out their thoughts in the public arena.

“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking.
It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.”
― Albert Einstein

How did Einstein get his brilliance? I’m not sure. Natural ability, focused thinking process, discipline to keep pointed a certain direction? Again. I’m not sure!

Think about Solomon, that acknowledged wise man of the ages. Where did his Wisdom come from? He was not perfect all the time, from the beginning of his life, nor till his ending, but he did start off with some good advantages.

“So king Solomon exceeded all the kings of the earth
for riches and for wisdom.
And all the earth sought to Solomon, to hear his wisdom,
which God had put in his heart.”
1 Kings 10:23-24 (KJV)

Notice it? Solomon’s wisdom came from God! Did he have advantages others did not? Sure. He was the son of the king. Was his knowledge enhanced because of his position? Definitely possible. It depended on him, what he wanted out of life, and how he applied himself.

It’s Your Choice

This is my summation. What I allow in my mind is under my control, and not yours. Having an open mind to allow anything space or power over who you are, will change how you communicate and live in the public space. I will be able to read your mind because you do not control it’s output.

But what I control into my thinking spaces will control how I act and react. Anger, hatred, swirling emotions… When I think the worst about anything, then the object my mind focuses on will be the victim of my actions. In public.

When Peter asked for an understanding to a parable, Jesus replied like this.

“Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
These are the things which defile a man:
but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.”
Matthew 15:17-20 (KJV)

Maybe Einstein had a good scientific thought. We have to change our thinking! We have to direct our thoughts down a better path, so that we have a better world.
