Saturday, we went by a local Stonecutters shed to pick up a piece of carving we had claimed and were waiting on the last touch-ups…

We were taken to the quarry to meet the artist and tour the stone yard and the quarry wall. I asked Dan if he had read Ken Follett’s book Pillars of the Earth. He had recently found it and was halfway through the story of stone carvers in medieval times learning new techniques to build arches, walls, and spires.

I will go back and spend some time with these guys, maybe pick up a mallet and chisel and try my hand at carving my name. Or something.

Check them out here, Tenino Stone Carvers!
